Activity: Interact Club Preserve Planet Earth Tree Planting and Beach Cleanup

Date: 26 April

The day began early. All the Interactors had to assemble at Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) at 6.30 am before boarding the buses to the customs. My school’s interactors were combined/paired up with those from River Valley School to form a larger group. Just before the customs there was a traffic jam present and we had to be delayed for about an hour plus. After we cleared the customs and finally reached the destinations, half the day’s programme (tree planting) had already been completed. And so upon what was left was the beach cleanup. We cleared up a portion of the beach, picking up all the litter that had been left behind by irresponsible beach goers. We had picked up over 8 big garbage bags full of litter. This tremendously shows the amount to litter left behind. After the beach cleanup was lunch. Photo taking followed on. The whole event ended with us reaching back to Singapore at 2.30 pm. From this activity, though it was fun, I learnt that we should be responsible for our actions. Do not litter. It isn’t nice to pick up rubbish and so we should spare a thought for those picking up rubbish everyday as an occupation.
